Create a project
Install, choose a renderer, add a cube and camera, then run.
1. Create a project
- Download the Windows editor and extract the complete distribution, including its libraries and .NET SDK.
- Launch Reckfell Engine and choose Create Project in the project manager.
- Name it
FirstGameand select a new, empty folder outside the engine installation. - Keep Deferred for modern desktop graphics. Choose Compatibility when a device needs a simpler path; it does not provide the complete post-processing set. Compare renderers.
- Open the project and wait for importing to finish.
The manager creates project.reckfell and Main.rscene. A new 3D scene contains an Entity3D root, sky, sunlight, ground, camera and image profile. Desktop projects default to Deferred and TAA; you can choose a different renderer during creation.
2. Find scene objects
In the default layout, Inspector and Hierarchy sit on the right. Open the temporary Assets drawer with Ctrl + Space. If Main.rscene is closed, find it in Assets and double-click it.
Entity3D stores position, rotation and scale. MeshInstance3D supplies visible geometry and Camera3D supplies the game view. The editor's free camera does not replace the game camera.
3. Add a visible object
- Select the
Mainroot and add a childMeshInstance3D. - Name it
Cube. Assign a newBoxMeshtoMeshin Inspector. - Set
Position = (0, 1, 0),Rotation = (0, 0, 0)andScale = (1, 1, 1). - Check that the cube appears above the ground.
The starter scene already contains a camera and light. Do not add a second active camera just for this lesson.
For an empty document, add a Camera3D: position (0, 1.5, 4), rotation (-20, 0, 0), Current enabled. Add a DirectionalLight3D with rotation (-45, -30, 0). Inspector rotations use degrees.
4. Save and run
| Action | Command |
|---|---|
| Save document | Ctrl + S |
| Run current document | F6 |
| Run the project's main scene | F5 |
| Stop the game | F8 |
Save the scene as Main.rscene. New projects already assign it as the main scene. If you started with an empty project and the editor asks for a main document, select your saved scene.
The game window should show the lit cube. For a blank view, check Mesh, the active camera, object position and lighting. Read Output and Debugger for errors. Troubleshooting.
5. Continue
Add your first C# component or open SharpGraph. Use Terrain for ground surfaces and post-processing for camera looks. Save reusable objects as prefabs.
