First shader: choose a task
A short route from built-in materials to custom shaders without repetition or incomplete examples.
Start with the required result
| Result | Open |
|---|---|
| Understand shader work versus C# logic | Introduction |
| Displace vertices with a heightmap and correct slope lighting | First 3D shader |
| Color relief, change parameters and separate materials | Material and parameters |
| Modify a 2D image | First 2D shader |
| Only configure a regular surface | StandardMaterial3D |
The 3D lessons require Reckfell 1.0.0 with the C# SDK and Forward+/Vulkan. Download their shared project: open project.reckfell, build C# and run Main.rscene. It includes the gallery, shader, heightmap and controller; no external assets are required.
Expect two relief samples on a display stand. They share one ShaderMaterial; the right sample receives an individual tint. On the root, Preview=Flat removes height at startup while Terrain uses the shader default. Editing exported Preview during play does not apply it again: call SetHeight() after _Ready.
First reproduce the baseline frame. Then change one parameter: height, color or the separate material. This distinguishes shader-code errors from incorrect resource assignment, insufficient vertices or lighting problems.
