Extension builds: choose a tool
MSVC, CMake/Ninja, and SCons for one example.
Three paths were checked for one source file. Choose one; an ordinary project does not need three DLL copies.
| Path | Use | Output |
|---|---|---|
Direct cl | Minimal compiler/ABI check. | DLL beside the source. |
| CMake/Ninja | Existing CMake project. | build/bin/native_probe.windows.x86_64.dll. |
| SCons | Existing Python/SCons build. | bin/native_probe.windows.x86_64.dll. |
Shared prerequisites: Windows x64, MSVC C++ tools, and one ExtensionSDK 1.0.0 kit. compatibility_minimum="1.0.0" declares a minimum version; it does not check every required ABI function.
After building, check class registration, constants, and unloading in a separate project. Linker success alone does not prove loadability.
The engine needs the .reckfellextension descriptor, matching DLL, and dependencies. .cpp, .obj, and import .lib files serve different roles. Building a plugin does not rebuild the engine.
